Ushas means "dawn" in Sanskrit.
Ushas Entertainment is an all-embracing entertainment company, with a mission to develop,
produce and present collaboratively, the artistic and creative talents of individuals from
both United States and other Asian countries. Ushas also strives to provide quality forums,
with the aim to foster cultural growth and visibility for the Asian and Indian American Communities within the Washington D.C. Metro Area.
The goals of Ushas are:
- Produce Quality Theatrical Productions Such as Plays, Musicals and Dance Dramas
- Provide Assistance and Suitable Venue for Touring and Local Performing Artists
- Produce and Distribute Television Shows
- Conduct Sports Events for Asian Community to Foster Friendship and Networking among the Members
Mrs. Valsala Sekhar
Mrs. Sekhar, CEO of Ushas Entertainment, LLC, holds a BA from Trivandrum Women's College, Kerala University, India and an MS from the University of Maryland, USA. Since her arrival to the USA in 1978, Mrs. Sekhar has actively been involved with the Asian, especially Indian cultural activities of Greater Washington area. She has choreographed dances, directed musicals and stage plays, organized cultural activities for non-profit organizations such as Kerala Association of Greater Washington, Indian Cultural Coordination Committee, Federation of Kerala Associations in North America, Asia Pacific Cultural Organizations and the Freer and Sackler Galleries of the Smithsonian. Her emphasis is always on cultural authenticity, genuine artistic talents, first-class venue, and efficient event coordination and execution. Mrs. Sekhar, a Certified Field and Studio Video Producer, incorporated Ushas Entertainment in the year 2000 as a commercial venture to give visibility to Asian arts and artists in USA and to accommodate a broad range of cultural activities including television productions.

Malini Sekhar
Ms. Sekhar, Director of Public Relations, has a B.A. from Wellesley College, Massachusetts, USA and a MA degree from Brandeis University,
Massachusetts, USA. A professionally trained Bharathanatyam dancer and an organizer of Asian cultural events in the collegiate and community level, Ms. Sekhar has a deep passion for Asian arts and culture. Ms. Sekhar was a college-level player as well as a ranked tennis player in the state and regional level in high school. She assists in the organization of tennis tournaments for Ushas Entertainment. In her spare time, she also conducts interviews for Image-in-Asian Television and has interviewed celebrities like Gurinder Chadha (director of Bend it Like Beckham), singer Padmashree Dr. K.J. Yesudas, and South Indian actress and director, Revathy. Malini is a Certified Field Producer and has written scripts for shows which air in Image-in-Asian Television.
